About

Juneteenth was born when, on June 19, 1865, the announcement of the abolition of slavery in Texas was finally given — more than 2 and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth is now a recognized U.S. and Utah State holiday that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans.

Salt Lake Juneteenth is a FREE community event — a celebration of resilience and joy! This family-friendly community celebration is open to the public and will be held in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City at The Gateway.

The celebration will feature:
- Black-owned Business Expo with vendors
- Art exhibit
- Food
- Music
- Entertainment
- Kids' corner
- Storytelling
- And much more!
