Artist Bio
George Lambson is a Salt Lake City-based artist whose work draws heavily from his interest in science and background in engineering to bridge the digital and analog worlds. George leverages his technical expertise to study the strict geometry and painstaking care required in gem cutting.

His process begins on the computer, where he renders models to map out the complex optical refractions and geometric facets of his subjects using the same software a gem cutter would use. This technical blueprinting stage allows him to deeply analyze the distinct character and physical personality inherent to each individual gemstone.

George then undertakes the challenge of translating these rigid crystals into watercolor paint. Because watercolor is a fluid medium that can have a mind of its own, using it to depict sharp, crystalline structures creates an engaging visual tension. Through this deliberate process, he successfully captures the glowing, luminous character of the stones within disciplined geometric bounds.

This structured workflow is also a vital accommodation for George’s health. Living with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME), his physical energy is profoundly limited, yet his creative drive remains boundless. Watercolor serves as a gentle, low-energy sanctuary that honors his physical boundaries while allowing artistic expression with precision.
