About

Explore the special exhibition For the Future: Collecting at the UMFA 2001–2026 through the eyes of Museum staff members. This free, 45-minute lunch-hour tour offers insights into the works on view, their histories, and how the Museum stewards them. It will be led by Alisa McCusker, senior curator at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts. You can stop by the Museum Café for a bite to eat.

American art encompasses an extraordinary range of creative expression, from Indigenous practices dating back thousands of years and European-origin painting and sculpture to modern and contemporary forms engaged on the global stage. McCusker will highlight some of the UMFA’s most noteworthy art acquisitions of the past 25 years, which have broadened and deepened the Museum’s representation of American history, culture, and life.

Alisa McCusker, PhD, is Senior Curator and Curator of European and American Art at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts. She specializes in Renaissance art and works on paper, and has curated and co-curated exhibitions on medieval and early modern book illustration, Japanese woodblock prints, American Regionalism, and contemporary art in the American West. Previously, she was Curator of European and American Art at the Museum of Art and Archaeology at the University of Missouri. She holds a doctorate in art history from the University of Texas at Austin and a master’s degree in art history and museum studies from the joint program between Case Western Reserve University and the Cleveland Museum of Art. She received a Fulbright full-year fellowship to Germany for her dissertation research.
