Calling all Naturalists!
Join local nature enthusiasts from 11am–1pm on September 27th at NHMU as we celebrate iNat Together, a global campaign happening through late September 2026 that invites experienced and new iNaturalist users to get outside with other people — friends, family, or fellow community members — and turn nature-watching into a shared experience.
Schedule:
- 11:00am — Meet at the roundabout (sidewalk at the front of NHMU, outside)
- 11:15am — Introduction
- 11:30am — Informal nature walk and photography
During the event, you’ll have the opportunity to learn:
- How iNaturalist works and how your observations contribute to science
- How to use the iNaturalist app to document and identify species
- Tips for taking clear, identifiable photos
- Wildlife observation techniques and other helpful field tips
New to iNaturalist? We recommend downloading the free iNaturalist app and creating an account before arriving.
What to expect:
- We'll head out for a wander around the NHMU property shortly after meeting.
- This is a free, informal, beginner-friendly nature experience; we'll use iNaturalist to document the plants, animals, fungi, and other wildlife we encounter.
- Park in the main NHMU parking lot off Wakara Way.
- Restrooms and drinking fountains are available inside the Museum on Level 1 and Level 2 (no entry ticket needed).
- We'll be on a mix of gravel trails, cement pathways, and uneven natural areas. Unmarked hazards may exist.
- This event is entirely outdoors, so come prepared to be outside.
What to bring:
- Bring your curiosity—and your smartphone or camera—and join us in discovering the remarkable biodiversity right in our own backyard!
