About

G. Love & Special Sauce is an American hip-hop blues band known for its blend of hip-hop, blues, funk, and soul. Formed in Philadelphia in 1993, the original trio featured Garrett Dutton, aka G. Love, on vocals and guitar, Jeffrey Clemens on drums, and Jim Prescott on bass. Their laid-back, groovy style pairs rap-like spoken word with bluesy singing.

Their 1994 debut album, G. Love & Special Sauce, included “Cold Beverage,” which gained popularity on alternative radio and MTV. The band’s sound has been described as “slacker blues” and “alternative hip-hop.” Over the years, they have released numerous albums, including Coast to Coast Motel (1995), Yeah, It’s That Easy (1997), The Electric Mile (2001), and the GRAMMY-nominated The Juice (2020). Their 2014 album Sugar reunited the original lineup.

Known for their energetic live performances, G. Love & Special Sauce has played festivals including Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza. Garrett Dutton has also collaborated with artists including Jack Johnson and released solo projects.

Todd Carey has spent a 15-year career making music in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, and now Tampa. He has performed alongside John Mayer, Train, and The 1975, and has released singles with Cisco Adler, Shwayze, G. Love, and Shwayze. His Beach-Pop-Rock music has been featured by Spotify and Apple Music editorial teams and in films on the Hallmark and Lifetime channels. Carey co-wrote Meghan Trainor’s “3AM” from the 2015 triple-platinum album Title. He also performs on the road, with upcoming appearances at Texafied JamFest, Pat McGee’s Down The Hatch, and Train’s Sail Across the Sun Cruise.
