About

Welcome to Doom Country. We’ve been waiting for you.

Hudson Freeman’s new album is a post-rapture road-trip record, pairing unshakeable riffs and philosophical explorations with a heavy-ass band. It’s a new high for the Brooklyn-based indie artist, weaving intimate storytelling, expansive production, and unflinching power into one LP that introduces Freeman’s evolving sound.

The record explores the sounds Freeman is most excited by and the ideas he’s most curious to understand. The band forged the heart of these songs on the road, alongside collaborators willing to experiment and live left of center. The songs are about love, how to live well, and what religion means to him today.

Born in Waxahachie, Texas, to Evangelical missionaries, Freeman spent his early teen years in Eswatini before college in Missouri led him to New York, where he’s now making a home with his wife, Sophia. He reflects on his upbringing, grappling with religious teachings and how they can be weaponized, and examining the internet’s ability to unite and divide. On his 2025 song “Good Faith,” Hudson sings, “I just don't think there's a hell, man, at least besides the one we keep.”

On Doom Country, he investigates whether that’s true and figures out how to survive within it.
