About

Join us for a special screening of Wim Wenders’ cinematic masterpiece Paris, Texas (1984), presented in dialogue with Madeline Rupard’s solo exhibition, 2002 Subaru Forester.

Centering on themes of solitude, memory, and the mythic weight of the American road, Paris, Texas follows Travis Henderson (Harry Dean Stanton) as he wanders out of the desert to piece together the fragments of his past. Shot in luminous, enduring color by cinematographer Robby Müller, the film captures the vast, melancholy beauty of the Western landscape—a terrain where distance, longing, and personal reconciliation collide.

Rupard’s exhibition similarly uses the vehicle and the open highway as a “scrappy, pragmatic sanctuary”—a frame through which to observe the contradictions of the contemporary American landscape. Both works meditate on the transient nature of contemporary life, the spaces we pass through, and the defiant effort to hold time still against loss and drift.
