Come watch Rene polish different stones with his lapidary machine. Ask questions and learn a bit more about the cabochons he cuts, polishes, and sells at The Local Artisan Collective.

Where: Just outside The Local Artisan Collective, 2371 Kiesel Ave, downtown Ogden, a little south of the Megaplex.

No registration needed—just show up and watch.

The demonstration will be led by Rene Venegas, a 16th-generation silversmith. His family was among the first to arrive from Spain to the Americas. His ancestor Felipe Venegas was the silversmith for early cathedrals in the Dominican Republic and stamped the first European coins in the New World. Rene has taught jewelry and silversmithing classes at Weber State for 15 years. He has also been featured in The Standard-Examiner, The Signpost, KUTV Inside the Story, FOX 13 Good Morning Utah, The Salt Project, and KTVX Good Things Utah. Most recently, he received Ogden City’s Mayor’s Art Award for Folk Art.
