His ancestor Felipe Venegas was the silversmith for early cathedrals in the Dominican Republic and stamped the first European coins in the New World. Rene has taught jewelry and silversmithing classes at Weber State for 15 years. He has also been featured in The Standard-Examiner, The Signpost, KUTV Inside the Story, FOX 13 Good Morning Utah, The Salt Project, and KTVX Good Things Utah. Most recently, he received Ogden City’s Mayor’s Art Award for Folk Art.
