CALL FOR ARTISTS – "ART IN RED" Competition

Get your Red ready! The Eccles Art Center invites artists to explore the power, passion, and intensity of a single color in Art in Red. This bold exhibition challenges artists to create work in red alone, exploring many shades—from deep crimson and burgundy to bright scarlet and rose. From subtle tonal variations to dramatic contrasts, artists are encouraged to push the limits of what can be expressed with a single color.

ENTRY DEADLINE: Friday, MAY 29, 2026

COMPETITION GUIDELINES:
- Eligibility: Open to all artists residing in Utah.
- Theme Requirement: Entries must be entirely RED in composition. NO other colors will be allowed, including black and white.
- Media: Original works in painting, original prints, monoprints, drawing, graphics, pottery, sculpture, textiles. Photography and reproduction prints (e.g., giclée) are not eligible.
- Digital Art: For this competition, Digital Art is artwork created directly by the artist using digital tools (tablets, styluses, art software). All entries must be original works conceived and produced solely by the submitting artist. Photography (filtered, manipulated, or otherwise), scanned images, found graphics, stock imagery, and AI-generated content are not considered digital art.
- AI: Artwork generated wholly or in part by artificial intelligence (AI) will not be accepted. Entries must be conceived and created directly by the submitting artist.
- Entry Limit: Up to two pieces per artist. Multi-part works will not be accepted.
- Size Limit: 3D work must not exceed 60 inches.
- Recent Work: Entries must have been created within the past two years and must not have been previously exhibited in a juried EAC exhibit.
- Display-Ready: All works must be ready to hang/display. Framed works must have wire or similar hanging systems. No alligator hangers, D-rings, V-rings, or keyholes.

ENTRY DROP-OFF:
- Tuesday–Friday, May 26–29, 2026 (the Art Center will be closed Monday, May 25 for Memorial Day)
- 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

LIABILITY:
All reasonable care will be taken; however, the EAC is not responsible for damaged work resulting from improper framing. Work left after pickup deadlines may incur storage fees. Unclaimed work after 60 days will be considered abandoned.

SALES:
Works may be for sale (not required). The EAC retains a 35% commission on all sales.

- First Place: $300
- Second Place: $200
- Third Place: $100
- Juror’s Award: $100
- Director’s Award: $100

PICK-UP DATES:
- Unaccepted Work: by June 5, 2026, 9:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
- Accepted but Unsold Work: June 29, 2026, 9:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

RECEPTION & EXHIBIT:
Join us for an opening reception:
- Friday, June 5, 2026, 5:00–8:00 p.m. Awards will be announced at the reception.
The exhibit runs from June 5 to 27, 2026, in the Carriage House Gallery.

ENTRY FEES:
- $10 per entry.
- $5 per entry for Art Center members.
- Artist Members receive one free entry.
Entry fees are non-refundable and support prize awards and promotion. Tags will be provided at drop-off. Artists will be notified of jury results via email.

License and Release:
By submitting to the Art in Red competition, I confirm that I am a Utah resident and that all work entered is original, created within the last two years, and uses red as the only color. I understand I may submit up to two works and that acceptable media include painting, drawing, sculpture, and other traditional or handmade processes; photography, AI-generated or AI-assisted artwork, and reproduction prints (including giclée) are not permitted. I agree that all artwork must be display-ready—framed or gallery-wrapped with a secure hanging wire—and that work not meeting these requirements will not be accepted. I understand entry fees are non-refundable and that the Eccles Art Center retains a 35% commission on sales. I agree to deliver and pick up work within the designated dates and acknowledge that work left beyond pickup deadlines may incur storage fees and will be considered abandoned after 60 days. I further understand that the Eccles Art Center is not responsible for damage due to improper framing or presentation.
