Tails on the Trails: Furry Friends of Herriman Trails Event
Join us on National Dog Day for our FREE event!
Date: Wednesday, August 26, 2026 — National Dog Day
Time: 6:00 pm–8:30 pm (event details list 6:00–8:30); another listing shows 6:30–8:30.
Location: Blackridge Reservoir Trailhead — 15000 S. Ashland Ridge Dr., Herriman, UT
We will have a tent set up at the Blackridge Reservoir Trailhead. Check in at the table to get your pup a pup cup, a trail buddy scarf, a cool trail sticker, make a donation to the trails, and pose for a trail dog photo.
Then take your dog on a hike on the dirt or on the blacktop trails around the reservoir. Suggested routes will be available for all dog ability levels. Come back at 8:00 pm for Pup Prizes and Drawing Results!

Donations, drawings, and prizes
- Local animal hospitals, groomers, and dog trainers have donated gift baskets, services, and gift cards for the drawing.
- Each $5 donation to the Friends of Herriman Trails Fund gets you one ticket into the drawing. All donations go toward building new or improving existing trails in Herriman.
- We will also give assorted prizes such as “The Waggliest Tail,” “The Best Bark,” “The Best in Show,” etc.
Suggested hiking routes
- Pampered Pooches: The blacktop trails around Blackridge Reservoir — perfect for dogs that don’t want to get dirty.
- Beginner Trail Dogs: The Stomp and Trot Trail that goes SE — short, with varied terrain. Detailed maps will be available at the event.
- Intermediate Trail Dogs: The “Around the Mound” loop (~3.5 miles) around Sidewinder to Diamondback over the top and back down to Blackridge Trail, or return via Stomp and Trot to the parking lot.
- Expert Trail Dogs: A longer route using Stomp and Trot, Erics, BST, Mosey, Erics, and back to the parking lot. If the new Stampede Trail is finished, you could do a quick loop of that too. Be sure to be back by 8:00 pm for the drawing and prizes.
Trail rules and dog etiquette
- All dogs must be on a leash, including in the parking lot and on the trails.
- No dogs allowed on the reservoir beach or in the water.
- If your dog is aggressive toward other dogs or people, please keep them home.
- Bag and carry out all dog waste. Do not leave bags on the trail.
- Trails will remain open to other users. Step off the trail if needed and be aware of horses and bikers.
- Bring water for your dog. This is a hot time of year and dogs dehydrate quickly.
- Be respectful of wildlife. Do not let dogs off leash to chase deer, chukars, or other animals. There are snakes in the area—keep your dog on a leash and back away if you see one. It doesn’t want to eat you…only bites when it feels threatened.
Emergencies and first aid
- Friends of Herriman Trails (FOH Trails) is not responsible for accidents or injuries on the trail. Please bring your own first aid kit. A small kit will be available at our table, but come prepared to care for yourself and your dog.
- Each participant will need to sign a waiver to participate.
- In an emergency, call 911.
