The Apartment (1960)

Lowly insurance clerk C. C. Baxter (Jack Lemmon) hopes to climb the corporate ladder by lending out his Manhattan apartment to his company’s executives for their extramarital affairs. His plan gets complicated when he falls for Fran Kubelik (Shirley MacLaine), a kind-hearted elevator operator who is involved with his married boss (Fred MacMurray). Directed by Billy Wilder and winner of five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, this sparkling blend of comedy and heartache remains one of the most sharp-witted and deeply human films ever made.
