Untethered: Spontaneous Creative Composition
Location
About
Untethered is a Philadelphia-based collective led by Paul Giess (Ropeadope), playing what their drummer, free jazz legend Grant Calvin Weston (Ornette Coleman, John Modeski, Vernon Reid), calls “Spontaneous Creative Composition.”
As a trio, the group plays a genre-crossing style of improvisation, placing deep-pocketed funk alongside intimate chamber music, and the raw energy of a punk band next to a sensitive ballad. Ensemble members have included Calvin West, Brandon Ross, Kayla Childs, Lee Clarke, Max Hoenig, Matthew Little, Rodrigo Pichardo, and bassist Timothy Ragsdale, who was featured on Untethered’s most recent release, “Phronesis,” and will perform on 10/16 alongside Paul and GCW.
Opening the evening is Capital Region-based experimental/ambient jazz trio 4i’s, with an all-new set of music. They’ll kick things off at 7pm.
Join us at the Van Dyck Music Club on Friday, October 16th for live music.
