TEMPO Concert Hall — Doors & Dance Class 7 PM | Show at 8 PM
Join us for two sets of dancing at our inaugural Swing Dance with Matt Munisteri's TEMPO All-Stars featuring Tamar Korn. Guitarist, singer and bandleader Matt Munisteri has assembled a crack team of seasoned NYC/Hudson Valley All-Stars in Swing. The members of this special 8-piece band have had long associations with Catherine Russell, Vince Giordano’s Nighthawks, and have worked with OGs like Benny Goodman, Buck Clayton and Tony Bennett. They will be augmented by a special guest vocalist, the always engaging and "beyond category" Tamar Korn.
Band lineup:
- Matt Munisteri (guitar, leader)
- Jon Kellso (trumpet)
- Mark Shane (piano)
- Harvey Tibbs (trombone)
- Tom Abbott (sax/clarinet)
- Sean Cronin (bass)
- Rich Levinson (drums)
The band will fill the rafters with everything from 1920s New Orleans traditional jazz to 1930s and 40s swinging favorites, as Tempo’s brand new dance floor receives its christening from your Happy Feet!
Schedule:
- 7 PM — Free dance class with Emily Vail
- 8 PM — Two sets of dancing in the big hall on our new professionally sprung dance floor
About the artists:
Matt Munisteri is a guitarist, singer, and songwriter hailed as one of “New York’s finest vintage guitar stylists” (DownBeat). A virtuoso of American guitar styles, he routinely works with a wide range of artists, from folk and bluegrass to mainstream jazz and the avant-garde. Over the past decade he has often toured and recorded with singer Catherine Russell (as guitarist and music director), violinist Mark O’Connor, Steven Bernstein’s Millennial Territory Orchestra, and The EarRegulars, a quartet he founded with trumpeter Jon-Erik Kellso. Other collaborators include Bill Frisell, Julian Lage, Greg Cohen, Kenny Davern, Andy Stein, Matt Glaser, Vince Giordano, Jenny Scheinman, Rachelle Garniez, Evan Christopher, Bob Wilbur, Bucky Pizzarelli, Dick Hyman, Frank Vignola, Whit Smith, Loudon Wainwright, Holly Cole, Robbie Fulks, Madeline Peyroux, “Little” Jimmy Scott, and Geoff Muldaur.
Tamar Korn is one of NYC’s unsung musical heroes for the past quarter-century and a Brooklyn Folk Fest favorite. Born in southern California, Korn is known for singing early jazz and roots music. The New York Times has praised her "smartly mewling" singing.
