About
Newly appointed Principal Guest Conductor of The Metropolitan Opera, Daniele Rustioni makes his SPAC debut leading Musorgsky’s evocative Pictures from an Exhibition, a work that has thrilled audiences since its 1874 premiere and inspired generations of musicians—including the 1970s rock supergroup Emerson, Lake & Palmer.
The program also features Korngold’s soaring Violin Concerto, with celebrated violinist Bomsori Kim making her SPAC and Orchestra debut, and Rossini’s exuberant Overture to Semiramide.
Daniele Rustioni, 42, is one of the most compelling conductors of his generation. He is Principal Guest Conductor of the Metropolitan Opera, Principal Guest Conductor Designate of the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, Music Director Emeritus of the Opéra National de Lyon, Music Director Laureate of the Ulster Orchestra, and Conductor Emeritus of the Orchestra della Toscana. Born in Milan, he began his career in 1993 as a member of Teatro alla Scala’s children’s chorus and studied at the Milan Conservatory "G. Verdi", La Scala Academy, Accademia Musicale Chigiana, and the Royal Academy of Music. He resides in London with his wife, violinist Francesca Dego, and their daughter.
Bomsori Kim is a celebrated violinist making her SPAC and Orchestra debut. Born in South Korea, she studied at Seoul National University and The Juilliard School. She is a prizewinner of the ARD International Music Competition, the Tchaikovsky International Competition, the Queen Elisabeth Competition, and the International Jean Sibelius Violin Competition. Her recordings for Deutsche Grammophon include Violin on Stage and a duo album with Rafał Blechacz; her recording of the Nielsen Violin Concerto with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra and Fabio Luisi won the 2024 BBC Music Magazine Award. She performs on the 1725 Guarnerius del Gesù violin "ex-Moller," generously loaned by The Samsung Foundation of Culture and The Stradivari Society of Chicago.
