About

Community Square Dance, 3:00–5:00 p.m.
Part of the 33rd Annual Fiddlers! Festival Weekend
Saturday, October 10, 2026
Jay Gould Church Carriage House, Roxbury, NY
Free; all community members welcome

After a day of old time music and dance workshops with Cathy Fink, Marcy Marxer, Becky Hill, Rachel Eddy, and Em Hammond, the music continues with three free community events. Everyone is welcome—musicians, dancers, music lovers, neighbors, and friends.

Schedule
- 1:00–2:30 p.m. – Open Jam with Catskills Old Time
- 1:00–3:00 p.m. – Potluck Dinner (bring a dish to share!)
- 3:00–5:00 p.m. – Community Square Dance led by Cathy and Marcy’s Old Time Coalition, with square dance caller Rachel Eddy

Open Jam, 1:00–2:30 p.m.
Fiddles, guitars, banjos, ukuleles, and mandolins are welcome at this free, open jam in the traditional old time string band style. Come listen or play along. The group will lead a selection of simple tunes and play through them slowly at first. All skill levels are welcome. If you can play an A, C, D, and G chord, you’ll be fine!

Come make—or just enjoy—live music with other people. This is a supportive, welcoming space to learn how jam sessions work, pick up tunes by ear, and experience the joy of communal music-making. Don’t play an instrument? Come listen, tap your feet, and soak in the sound of old time music played the way it’s meant to be—together.

Potluck Dinner, 1:00–3:00 p.m.
Bring a dish to share and enjoy a communal meal with fellow musicians, dancers, and community members. Connect, share stories, swap tunes, and fuel up for the evening’s square dance. All are welcome, whether you attended workshops or are just joining for the evening. The carriage house also has a living room area where you can relax and enjoy from the side.

Community Square Dance, 3:00–5:00 p.m.
This community square dance welcomes dancers of all experience levels. It is led by Cathy Fink, Marcy Marxer, and their Old Time Coalition, with square dance caller Rachel Eddy. The caller will guide you through every step. No partner or experience necessary. Bring comfortable shoes and a willingness to move!
