About
Join us for some additional Open Studio hours hosted by featured artists of the “No Ma’ammy” show. Our doors are open and participants of all ages are invited to drop by to work independently or on the project-of-the-day.
The project varies week to week and gives participants an opportunity to feel inspired about learning a new craft or sharing their own art. The emphasis is on the arts as personal expression and working together with the community, rather than about the perfection of the final product.
Schedule:
- Saturday, 2/28, 1-3pm with Robert Cooper
- Sunday, 3/1 1-3pm: Miki Conn
- Saturday 3/7, 1-3pm with UBU
- Saturday 3/8, 1-3pm with UBU
If you respect and wish to communicate with your ancestors, you can create an "Ancestor Stick" to facilitate the process. You'll need a sturdy stick the size of a walking or hiking stick. Don't worry if your stick has bark, branches or flaws that you might not care for -- you can sand it or cut away unwanted parts. Gather found objects you would like to use to decorate and enhance communication such as shells, bells, beads, cloth or leather, feathers -- anything you sense would appeal to your ancestors and to you. I'll bring some supplies that I have collected. Test your stick to make sure it will hold up to pounding on the floor. Just get a comfortable grip on the stick and pound the bottom rhythmically on the floor. I'll tell you what else you need to know and answer your questions in the class.
