The Nighthawks – 9/22

Legendary blues and roots rock band THE NIGHTHAWKS is heading back to Syracuse September 22.

The Nighthawks began as an idea in Mark Wenner’s brain long before he could implement it. Influenced by pre-1958 Washington, D.C. radio, Wenner mixed blues, R&B, honky-tonk country, doo-wop, gospel, and rockabilly into one delicious stew.

Current lineup:
- Mark Wenner: Vocals, Harmonica
- Mark Stutso: Drums, Vocals
- Sol Roots: Bass
- Dan Hovey: Guitar, Vocals

A brief history:
- The original lineup solidified in mid-1974 with Mark Wenner, Jimmy Thackery, Jan Zukowski (bass) and Pete Ragusa (drums). The quartet toured extensively and opened for artists such as Muddy Waters, James Cotton, and Carl Perkins, and worked with John Hammond and Pinetop Perkins.
- Over the years the band went through several lineup changes and served as backing bands for various artists and tours.
- Mark Stutso spent nearly two decades with Jimmy Thackery before joining The Nighthawks; he has a long background in regional rock bands and strong vocals.

Blues Music Award:
- In 2009 Sirius XM’s Bill Wax invited the band to record live tracks for the “B. B. King’s Bluesville” channel. Those tracks were released as Last Train to Bluesville on RipBang Records. The CD won Acoustic Album of the Year at the Blues Foundation’s Blues Music Awards in Memphis in May 2011. The release involved mastering by Bill Wolf and promotion assistance from Mark Pucci and Todd Glazer.

- Most seats are sold as “Tables for Two” — a ticket admits TWO people.
- There are a limited number of single seats; single attendees may share a table with other singles.
- Multiple tickets purchased under the same name will automatically be seated together (up to 6 people).
- Requesting a specific table is a perk reserved for VIP Patron members.
