Join DEC at the Bay Terrace Library on Monday, March 16, 2026 to learn the basics of how to get started in freshwater fishing. During this lesson, participants will learn about the following topics and test their newfound knowledge through a simulated fishing activity.
- Who is the DEC and what is the I FISH NY program?
- NYC fishing locations
- Identifying freshwater fish species of NYC
- Special Fishing Regulations/Rules
- Responsible Angling Practices
This lesson is recommended for ages 11-18. The goal of this lesson is to encourage younger participants to get outside and experience fishing in NYC by becoming familiar with local fishing opportunities and understanding the special fishing regulations that apply.
