About
STRIPPED offers an intimate, informal look at choreographer and dancer Doug Varone’s creative process. Runtime is approximately 75 minutes.
The Company, celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2026, will perform excerpts and full dances from its repertory, including the first preview of Varone’s latest dance set to Radiohead’s iconic 2007 album, In Rainbows. The work was developed as part of the company’s anniversary season, originally planned to include performances at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D. C. Varone later withdrew from those engagements citing moral objections. Hudson Hall audiences now have the opportunity to experience this work up close in an intimate setting.
Dressed in rehearsal clothes and with simple lighting, the company shares the intricacies of how dances are built and performed through demonstration and conversation. Varone’s articulate, insightful dissection of his work demystifies the art form and provides a framework for experiencing the beauty and humanity of contemporary dance.
Followed by a post-performance reception with the artists in collaboration with Dancers Responding to AIDS, producers of the annual Hudson Valley Dance Festival.
