Stockade Walkabout 2026
Location
About
This fall open house tour in Schenectady’s Historic Stockade neighborhood provides a rare chance to step inside some of the unique homes in New York State’s first historic district. The Walkabout also features music, characters, exhibits at the Schenectady County Historical Society, an archaeology dig, and exhibits of artifacts left behind by early residents. It’s held in partnership with the Stockade StreetFest.
Several neighbors have graciously agreed to open the interior of their homes to visitors and tell secrets of the architecture and stories of the families that lived in them. Locations also include the Schenectady County Historical Society, the Stockade Inn, neighborhood churches, and more.
- ✨ Sip cider from apple trees growing now where wild cucumbers used to grow. This home is lovingly decorated with cherished family pieces and creative artwork by Hannah Skoonberg.
- ✨ Step inside one of the narrowest and coziest homes in the Stockade, only 17 feet wide but 4 rooms deep with the original stairwell skylight.
- ✨ A gracious entry hall greets you with an oak staircase and beautiful windows and fireplace in this Arts and Crafts turn of the century home.
- ✨ View displays of discovered artifacts and historic photographs from the ongoing restoration to this 1765 Georgian-style home with a late 19th century façade and mansard roof.
- ✨ See interiors recently filmed by Warner Brothers for their 2027 movie and find the secret inscription in the front parlor window.
- ✨ Enjoy peaceful views of the Binne Kill from this charming cottage and get decorating ideas from the newly renovated kitchen.
The Stockade Walkabout is presented by the Stockade Association and the Schenectady County Historical Society with proceeds benefiting Stockade preservation and beautification, and SCHS’ mission.
On the day of the Walkabout, bring your ticket voucher (purchase confirmation or confirmation email) to the Schenectady County Historical Society, 32 Washington Ave. in the Stockade Historic District.
