Learn to Sew (with Purpose)
Have you ever wanted to learn how to sew, but felt like you missed the moment when everyone else learned?
You didn’t.
This new Creative Jam sewing circle is designed especially for people who want to learn — including people who have never touched a sewing machine before.
We’ll start with a simple, beginner-friendly project: soft baby blankets that will be donated to families and organizations that support children and new parents in our region. It’s a project that’s perfect for learning the basics, and it means every stitch you sew will go toward something kind.
Most people in this class will be beginners, and that’s exactly the point. We’ll take things step by step in a relaxed, supportive environment where questions are encouraged and mistakes are just part of learning.
Each session includes a lead instructor along with experienced sewing mentors who move around the room to help beginners get comfortable with their machines, fabric, and first seams.
Together we’ll learn:
- how to use a sewing machine
- sewing straight seams
- handling fabric
- simple construction techniques
- building confidence with every project
For Learners
No sewing experience is required.
Pricing:
- $30 — Learners bringing their own sewing machine
- $40 — Learners who need to use a shared sewing machine
Learners needing a shared machine will be waitlisted until enough machines are confirmed. If a machine cannot be provided, your ticket will be refunded.
Calling Sewing Mentors
If you’re an experienced sewist who enjoys helping others learn, we would love to welcome you as a mentor.
- Mentors attend for free.
- Mentors who bring a spare sewing machine to share receive a $10 Creative Jam gift card for each machine.
Your patience, encouragement, and knowledge help make this kind of creative community possible.
This is how skills get passed along. This is how community is built. And it starts with one stitch.
