About

Join us in celebrating Tatiana Bilbao ESTUDIO: Borrowed Earth on Saturday, October 24, from 2 to 5 PM in the Sculpture & Architecture Park at Art Omi. The opening concludes Art Omi’s fall architecture programming.

Borrowed Earth is a newly commissioned work by Mexico City–based architecture practice Tatiana Bilbao ESTUDIO. Made from locally sourced soil using rammed earth, a technique rarely used in this region, it takes the form of columns that are both architectural and inseparable from the landscape. As weather and the seasons slowly erode them, the columns will blend back into the ground, making the passage of time visible and reflecting the fragile bond between humans and nature. This architecture is meant not to last, but to belong: to land, to change, and to the cycles of nature itself.

At 3 PM, Ecuadorian-American artist Lita Vinueza will perform live alongside the work, responding to Borrowed Earth with custom-designed electronic instruments. Vinueza works across sound, instrument design, performance, public programming, and collective experimentation. She is the founder of Sonic Liberation Devices, a collective and research platform developing experimental instruments and open-source technologies rooted in accessibility, anti-ableist design, collective knowledge, and decolonial approaches to sound.

Free. All ages. RSVP encouraged; walk-ins always welcome.
