About
Jesse DeNatale’s new album, “The Hands of Time,” is, in a word, reverential. At times it’s symphonic; at others, it pulses forward with a rawness and rhythmic power that he says stems from his Mexican/Italian roots. The California native says making the record was about cutting through the noise—not over-planning the production, but chasing the mystery and weaving what he has learned about being human with what he describes as a new, thinner, fragile reality in recovery mode from the pandemic.
Some albums try to ride the zeitgeist, embodying the urgency and anxiety of our times. “The Hands of Time” is a medicinal antidote, reminding you of what is eternal and of the spirit. Deeply reflective and reverent toward the art of living, it aims to help us find our way.
The ten songs range in subject from love (“Love Is”) and gratitude (“The Hands of Time”) to sorrow and the horrors of gun violence (“Stop This World”). The notion of time itself, with its power and irreversibility, appears in every song.
