Family Saturday: Outdoor Adventures—Bug Hotels and Fairy Doors
Location
About
Join us on Saturday, April 11, at 2 pm for Family Saturday: Outdoor Adventures—Bug Hotels and Fairy Doors. In partnership with Skidmore’s Green Grant project, students Bridget Hunt ’26 and Maxine Catlin ’26 will lead a pollinator workshop inviting participants to help build bug hotels for the Skidmore campus. Programs run from 2–3:30 pm.
After viewing Métamorphose de papillon by Abdoulaye Konaté in All These Growing Things, we’ll discuss the artwork and learn about pollination. Participants will then help build bug hotels using:
- paint
- eucalyptus cylinders
- bamboo tubes
- pine cones
- mulch
Additionally, participants can decorate their own fairy doors to take home using paint, buttons, beans, and stones.
Family Saturday programs foster multigenerational creative cooperation through looking at artwork, discussing it, and engaging in a hands-on art-making activity. All programs are free and open to the public, and suitable for children age 5 and older, accompanied by their adult companions. No registration required; supplies provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
