About

Stephen Bluhm & Work Crush

‘Brave, courageous, and bold!’ - Jonathan Richman

‘Stephen Bluhm really brings it for me, makes a true believer out of me concerning music and artistic expression.’ - Mike Watt

‘Stephen Bluhm is our very own Moondog.’ - Sean O’Hagan (High Llamas, Stereolab)

“Emotional Plea,” featuring Mike Watt and Alex Wernquest, is the debut single by Stephen Bluhm’s new art-synth-disco project Work Crush. Making its Avalon debut, the live band features Bluhm’s melodic vocals and whimsical stage presence, with Scott Kellerhouse (Hellish Cashstrap) on bass, Nate Gebhard (The Drought) on synths, and Ethan Kelly on synths. Bluhm’s last album, Out of the Nowhere Into the Here, inspired a handwritten fan letter from Jonathan Richman and high praise from Mike Watt and Sean O’Hagan. Bluhm’s music is somewhere between all three.

Heather Fisch + the Bleating Femmes

Luminous vocalist and comedic storyteller Heather Fisch sheepwalks through waking dreams, blending sad-girl folk covers with silky vocals and absurdist throughlines.

Samuel Boat (solo)

Samuel Boat is the moniker of multi-instrumentalist Sam Lisabeth, a longtime member of art-rock/synth-pop band Guerilla Toss. Boat has been releasing fuzzy home-recorded music and touring haunted DIY spots around New England and beyond since 2013. In 2024, he self-released “Mountains and Man Made Lakes,” opting for an actual studio in lieu of his usual sparse recording style.
