About

Allysen Callery is a self-taught singer-songwriter from Bristol, Rhode Island. Her delicate, mesmerizing sound has been compared to classic British folk artists like Sandy Denny and Nick Drake. A favorite on the RI folk scene, her music has found listeners in the UK and Europe.

Her 2020 album, “Ghost Folk,” was named one of Folk Radio UK’s Top Albums of the year. Austria’s Guteshoerenistwichtig named it Album of the Year, describing it as “surrounded by a kind of positive mysticism and a familiar strangeness, radiating charm and a generous flair.” Paste Magazine wrote: “Her lilting voice and heartfelt lyrics are eerily close to the work of the late British songstress Sandy Denny, the highest compliment I could hand down to this brilliant artist.”

Noah Harley

In my music, writing and performance, I attempt my level best to fashion old skins from new grapes, grafting a post-nuclear bough onto old growth American vernacular. All tradition should be inoculated against the test tube! Contaminated from without, because never pure to begin with!

My father has been a professional storyteller and children’s performer, and my mother his manager. As a kid, I was always asking: where is the storyline here, who’s speaking with the fuzzy voice, and what are they carrying over the hill in that large black bag? My work has found its way to underpopulated bars in Berlin, street corners, defunct blogs, and once the Princeton University Graduate Center on a Tuesday night. I’m not at all sure how you came across this website, but however you did, you’re very welcome. If you enjoy the work, it’s available for purchase, all received gratefully as encouragement and a warm cup of coffee.
