About

Free developmental reading of Darlin’ by Michelle Carter

  • Directed by Zoya Kachadurian
  • With Amada Duarte, Barbara Pitts, Rebecca Brown Adelman, & Phil Mansfield

Next weekend — Friday, March 27 at 7:00 pm — join us for a free developmental reading of Darlin’, our November MainStage production by Michelle Carter.

Michelle Carter is also the author of two other plays seen at Bridge Street Theatre, How to Pray and the World Premiere of Better.

Zoya also directed last year’s Mary Jane, which critics called "More than exceptional!" (Macey Levin, Berkshire on Stage), "A joy to watch!" (Bill Kellert, Nippertown), and "Funny and agonizing!" (Patrick White, Metroland Now). I’m excited to see where Zoya and Michelle take this one.

The play itself is a challenge — in the best possible way. It’s more meditative and poetic than many of the plot-driven plays we typically feature, moving through multiple time periods, memories, and flashbacks, as four actors each take on half a dozen characters.

Zoya, Michelle, and the team will spend three days shaping, reshaping, and revising the play (we’ve stocked up on printer paper), and then we’ll see what they come up with.

If you’ve ever been curious about how a play evolves from a playwright’s heart and soul into what you see onstage, you’ll want to catch this reading — and then come back for the full production in November.
