Katie Beck in Concert

Katie Beck presents an afternoon of music — classical, crossover, and more — inspired by the Museum’s exhibition Vermont Vice, on view through November 1, 2026. Katie will set the scene of Vermont as an idyllic rural paradise before exposing its dark side through songs about murder, drunkenness, and all-around bad behavior. The afternoon will be redeemed when it finishes off with a selection of Katie’s favorite tunes. The program includes everything from Rossini to Cole Porter to Sondheim — a little something for everyone. Katie will be accompanied by pianist Chris Rose.

Hailed by the Boston Globe as “balmy-voiced” and for her “uniformly excellent” performances, mezzo-soprano Katherine Beck has performed with operas, orchestras, and symphonies throughout the country, from Los Angeles to Florida and everywhere in between. She calls Bennington home. While best known for operatic roles such as Marquise Melibea in Il viaggio a Reims and Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Katie’s repertoire also includes jazz, showtunes, folk music, and more. She is a winner of the George London Foundation Award. She earned her Master of Music degree from the Thornton School of Music at the University of California, where she sang Béatrice in Béatrice and Bénédict and Sesto in La clemenza di Tito. Katie lives in Shaftsbury, Vermont with her husband and son.

Chris Rose is a musician and teaching artist from Northeastern Pennsylvania. An avid wanderer, he has performed with orchestras in Italy, Sweden, South Korea, Alaska, and around the United States, and aboard Cunard, Crystal, and Royal Caribbean ocean liners. Recent appearances include Vermont’s Marlboro Music Festival, Colorado’s Jazz Aspen Snowmass Summer Jazz Workshop, and New York’s Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival. He has served as a Teaching Artist for the non-profit Empire State Youth Orchestra, plays trumpet in the Berkshire Symphony, and teaches Dalcroze Eurhythmics, piano, and brass at Bennington College.
