All That’s Solid Melt into Wiggling Air

Musician and multidisciplinary artist Adam Tinkle has been engaged in an artistic research process into the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall as building, institution, and “instrument” throughout its once-in-a-generation renovation. He has been documenting the peeling away and re-layering of the historic building while composing adventurous musical and documentary responses to the questions raised by the renovation process.

Now, flipping the “ON” switch on the historic 188 Odell pipe organ for the first time since the hall’s reopening, the project turns toward an investigation of the materiality and metaphors of airflow — the most fundamental of musical media — in an evening-length premiere of new compositions for the “king of instruments” and assorted others.
