About
Discover one of World War II’s most extraordinary stories of wartime deception during a special screening of The Ghost Army, followed by a conversation and audience Q&A with Rick Beyer, President of the Ghost Army Legacy Project, co-author of The Ghost Army of World War II, and a featured voice in the documentary.
In 1944, a handpicked group of American soldiers known as the 23rd Headquarters Special Troops used inflatable tanks, carefully staged sound effects, fake radio transmissions, and elaborate visual illusions to deceive German forces about the size and location of Allied troops.
Visitors are encouraged to explore the New York State Museum’s special exhibition, Ghost Army: The Combat Con Artists of World War II, to discover artifacts, stories, and examples of the ingenious techniques used to mislead enemy forces and protect Allied troops.
