Jordan Taylor Hill has been developing this music quietly for some time. On Friday, October 2, 2026, he’ll share it publicly for the first time.
Songs Born of Tradition is a work-in-progress collection of original music shaped by the rhythms, sounds and traditions Jordan has spent years studying, performing and learning from across the African diaspora.
From West African rhythm and Caribbean traditions to Latin American music and the Black American music that raised him, the project explores what happens when those influences meet in the music Jordan is creating now.
The evening marks the first public performance of Songs Born of Tradition, featuring live percussion, original music and collaborators, followed by a conversation about the work and where it comes from.
