About

For the past 25 years Terrapin Flyer has toured with musicians from the Grateful Dead community and become a fixture on the national music scene, playing venues and music festivals around the country. The band is known for authentic interpretations of rare and classic Dead songs and has a dedicated following among Dead and jam band fans.

It started in 1999 at the Boulevard Cafe in Chicago as a Grateful Dead jam night and soon became a touring band. In 2001 Terrapin Flyer began touring with Vince Welnick. In 2004 they toured with Melvin Seals (Hammond organ in the Jerry Garcia Band), and in 2006 with Tom Constanten. Some tours included first-ever lineups featuring Melvin Seals, Tom Constanten, and Mark Karan (from Ratdog). Those were long-term bonds — Terrapin Flyer toured with Melvin Seals for 15 years while he continued with Melvin Seals & the JGB. With Constanten they were mentioned in Rolling Stone's "Guide to the Grateful Dead."
