Join UMOCA and the Interdisciplinary Arts Collective (IAC) for a rare, intermedial performance of Cornelius Cardew’s seminal 1967 graphic score, Treatise. Presented in dialogue with the National Gallery of Art’s loan of Sol LeWitt’s Wall Drawing No. 39, this immersive event celebrates two pivotal conceptual figures who fundamentally expanded the definitions of visual art, musical notation, and instruction-based systems.
The evening begins at 6:00 PM with a brief opening talk at LeWitt’s Wall Drawing No. 39, framing the dynamic intersection between visual art and experimental music before moving into the Main Gallery for the performance.
This is a durational, site-fluid performance that moves throughout the museum space. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Audience members are encouraged to move freely, entering and exiting the space throughout the 2-hour duration.
