About
Experience one of the landmark films of the Acid Western movement with a special screening of Peter Fonda’s The Hired Hand (1971), presented in conjunction with UMOCA’s exhibition Altered States in the Acid West.
Blending the visual language of the traditional Western with the countercultural spirit of the late 1960s and early 1970s, The Hired Hand is a meditative, visually striking exploration of friendship, freedom, memory, and the American landscape.
Before the screening, join musician Chaz Prymek (Lake Mary) for a special listening session inspired by Langhorne’s original score. Through layered banjo, guitar, and piano, Prymek’s music echoes the spacious, contemplative soundscapes that helped define The Hired Hand, offering an immersive introduction to the evening’s film.
Featuring an acclaimed soundtrack by Bruce Langhorne, the film has become a cult classic and a touchstone of the Acid Western genre.
