About

TAGUA TAGUA

Based in São Paulo and formed in 2017, Tagua Tagua is led by songwriter and producer Felipe Puperi. Before starting the project, Felipe fronted space-groove rock band Wannabe Jalva for several years. He has played Lollapalooza Brazil and supported Pearl Jam and Jack White, and has been featured on KCRW, The New York Times, Stereogum, BrooklynVegan and WFUV.

After receiving praise in Brazil, Tagua Tagua began gaining attention overseas, with features on NPR and Remezcla, a track on the FIFA 20 soundtrack and support slots for The Growlers. Following two EPs, “Tombamento Inevitável” (2017) and “Pedaço Vivo” (2018), the project released its first LP, “Inteiro Metade” (2020). The album blends tropical psychedelia, the principles of ye ye ye, and funk and soul influences, with supple melodies and dreamlike timbres. Felipe wrote and recorded all the songs. They were mixed by fellow Wannabe Jalva member Tiago Abrahão and mastered by Brian Lucey (The Black Keys, Chet Faker).

ORLAS

Orlas takes its name from the Portuguese word for “shores” or “coasts.” The project is a collaboration between father and son Victor Chicri and Vic Delnur, blending samba-jazz, bossa nova, disco-funk and more.

Chicri is a maestro and pianist who began his career in the 1970s. He has recorded, produced and performed with Brazilian artists including Gal Costa, Seu Jorge, Bebel Gilberto, Simone and Emilio Santiago. He has also performed worldwide, including at the Montreux Jazz Festival with the Quincy Jones orchestra. His productions have received gold and platinum awards, and he has been recognized with a Latin Grammy.

Multi-instrumentalist and record producer Vic Delnur has toured worldwide with former psychedelic indie rock band Water and Man. He has also worked as a producer and live performer with artists including Sessa, Mahmundi, Luciane Dom and Trella.

Orlas’ debut LP, “Viver o Mar,” has 11 tracks and features an eight-piece orchestra. “Alagoas,” “Sabor De Você” and the title track capture the sound of the record. Luciane Dom sings on “Um Par,” and Gabi Delnur sings on “Imensidão.” The title means finding life’s essence in the ocean’s embrace: joy in simplicity and love in nature’s beauty, feeling small yet free, like a child playing by the shore. In the sea, we find peace, happiness and a connection to something bigger. The ocean opens the door to endless possibilities and wonder.

In live performances, Orlas is joined by Laura Pereira (vocals, flute), Sarah Maciel (vocals), Felipe dos Santos (bass, percussion), Kely Pinheiro (cello) and Thiago Dom (drums). Together, they blend Brazil’s musical heritage with a modern sound.
