Over the past decade, Albany, New York’s State Champs have become a major player in pop-punk, helping define the genre for a new generation of fans.

Formed in 2010 by vocalist Derek DiScanio and guitarist Tyler Szalkowski, State Champs began in garages and basements throughout their hometown. The band released its debut, The Finer Things, in 2013, followed by Around the World and Back in 2015, which elevated them to the forefront of the genre.

The band’s third album, Living Proof, was released June 15 on Pure Noise Records. It is the most ambitious and cohesive work in the band’s catalog. The album was written after touring for Around the World and Back, with the band returning to Albany and starting work in their garage. It was recorded in two sessions, with producers John Feldmann, Mike Green, and Kyle Black. The band also co-wrote songs with Alex Gaskarth of All Time Low and Mark Hoppus of Blink-182.

Living Proof explores independence and the mixed emotions that come with experiences such as break-ups, flings, love, and loss. State Champs pushed themselves in new directions while staying connected to their roots.
