Pottery Decoration Class — Sgraffito and Mishima
- When: Sundays, May 3 & 10, 9:00–11:30 am
- Where: Art Haus, Salt Lake City, UT
- Age limit: 14+
- Taught by: Randee
This class is open to all skill levels. Students with prior pottery experience are welcome to bring their own leather-hard pieces to practice on; everyone is also welcome to use the practice tiles provided in class.
We’ll cover traditional and contemporary approaches to sgraffito (carving through colored slips) and Mishima (inlaying designs into clay), including working with engobes, underglazes, and oxides. Students will practice on two leather-hard clay tiles provided by Art Haus.
If you want to make pottery to practice on prior to class, you can purchase a bag of clay from the studio (not required). Please note: outside clay is not allowed in the studio. Recommended clay: bmix or porcelain; no groggy clay.
Bring any leather-hard pots you’d like to decorate and any designs you want to carve. Take your pottery surface design skills to the next level and explore new ways to personalize your work with detailed surface techniques.
