About
A sorcerer’s curse. An infernal dance. A breathtaking finale. You’ll be spellbound by Stravinsky’s bold, rhythmic, and powerful Firebird. Originally commissioned as a ballet and revised over several decades, The Firebird Suite has established itself as essential listening for arts lovers—iconic for its rich storytelling and groundbreaking composition. Join us for Stravinsky’s 1945 revision, often cited as the most precise and brilliant way to experience the work.
Three gems open the program, including Mendelssohn’s marvelous Overture to A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Vaughan Williams’ Serenade to Music (which is so expressive and lyrical that he later created a choral version). Alexandra Dariescu brings her "exquisite" and "fine-spun" technique to Clara Schumann’s lush and honey-hued Piano Concerto.
Join us for a pre-concert chat about the evening’s program with guest artists and symphony musicians, held 45 minutes prior to the performance start time in the First Tier Room.
