THE OUTSIDERS featuring founding member Ricky Biagiola
Four songs that charted on Billboard’s Hot 100:
- “Time Won’t Let Me” (#5)
- “Respectable” (#15)
- “Girl In Love” (#21)
- “Help Me Girl” (#37)
In 1965, in Cleveland, Ohio, a successful local rhythm and blues band called Tom King and The Starfires recorded an original song composed by Tom King and his brother-in-law, Chet Kelly. The song, “Time Won’t Let Me,” was submitted to regional Capitol Records promotional representatives, who renamed the band The Outsiders and released the record. It climbed to #5 on Billboard’s national charts.
The group’s popularity led to television appearances on shows including Dick Clark’s “Where The Action Is,” “Hullabaloo,” and “Shindig,” as well as in-person shows across the United States. Subsequent releases also received national radio airplay. “Girl In Love” reached #11, “Respectable” reached #15, and “Help Me Girl” reached #21. Recent Outsiders releases, including “I’ve Got A Heart Too,” have also done well on the charts.
The Outsiders are now fronted by original drummer Ricky Biagiola (Baker), accompanied by Cleveland musicians Rik Storm on keyboards and multi-instrumental duties, Rob Mitchell on bass and vocals, and Jimmy Aschenbener on guitar and vocals.
