Are you pepper obsessed or simply pepper-curious? In this workshop, we’ll cover key pepper-specific seed-starting requirements, techniques to support optimal early growth before planting outside, and the timing and techniques for maximizing pepper production once in the ground. We’ll touch on pest and disease troubleshooting, season extension, and more! You’ll have the confidence to start peppers from magical tiny seeds and take them to your favorite recipes. Confidently apply what you’ve learned to help your pepper seedlings thrive next season.
About our instructor:
Shirley is the founder of Urban Pepper Project, a vibrant chapter following a 30-year career as a professional geologist. Motivated by the pandemic’s impact on the food system, she turned her lifelong love of growing food into a full-time farming venture, specializing in peppers, tomatoes, beans, squash, and other summer produce. Now in her tenth year growing peppers, third year of farming at Cressfarm in Millcreek, Utah, and her fifth year hosting the Urban Farmer Plant Sale, Shirley shares her passion for unusual and heirloom plants with the local community. When not farming, she enjoys sailing, backpacking, and advocating for local food systems.
