About

Join us for a copper bowl making workshop. Learn the basics of shaping, hammering, soldering and polishing copper, and design your own bowl. Supplies, tools and instructions are provided. No experience is necessary.

What to expect:
- Shape your bowl using hammers and shaping tools.
- Smooth rough edges with sandpaper.
- Solder on a copper base and handles that you create.
- Polish your bowl to a shine.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a functional copper bowl for jewelry, keys or display.

Cost: $55 per person, including everything you need for class.

Ages: 16+. Younger kids may attend with an adult. There is a lot of hammering, and younger kids may tire easily.

When: Sat, Oct 10 at 10am
Where: The Local Artisan Collective, 2371 Kiesel Ave, downtown Ogden, just south of the Megaplex.

This class usually sells out, and space is limited, so signing up ASAP is recommended. Register at the shop or online. No refunds for cancellations less than 7 days before the class begins.

About the instructor: Rene Venegas is a 16th-generation silversmith. His family was among the first to arrive from Spain to the Americas. His ancestor, Felipe Venegas, was a silversmith for early cathedrals in the Dominican Republic and stamped the first European coins in the New World. Rene has taught jewelry and silversmithing classes at Weber State for 15 years. He has been featured in The Standard Examiner, The Signpost, KUTV Inside the Story, FOX13 Good Morning Utah, The Salt Project and KTVX Good Things Utah. Most recently, he received Ogden City’s Mayor’s Art Award for Folk Art.
