About

Looking to make your own unique jewelry or brush up on silversmithing skills? Then this is the class for you.

Join us for a morning of creating your own unique jewelry. You’ll learn the basics of jewelry making, including how to use different tools and materials and how to create necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and rings. All skill levels are invited.

Registration covers the class and use of tools and equipment. Metal and stones are extra; you can bring your own or buy them at the store at the time of class.

This is meant to be an ongoing class, so you can learn new skills as you master old ones. You’re also welcome to attend just one class. For a one-time class, you can choose to make a silver band or ring, a silver band or ring with a cabochon stone, a simple earring design, a copper or silver bracelet with or without a cabochon stone, or a simple pendant with or without a cabochon stone.

This is NOT a bead class, wire wrapping, or something similar. It is silversmithing.

Cost: $40 per 2-hour class, or 3 classes for $100. Class size is limited to about 4–5 so there is ample one-on-one instruction.

Though the class is geared toward adults, mature teens and pre-teens are welcome to join as well.

When:
- Every Wednesday at 10 a.m.
- Monday mornings at 9:30 a.m.

Where: The Local Artisan Collective, 2371 Kiesel Ave, Ogden, downtown, just a little south of the Megaplex. Private classes and parties are also available.

You can pay for the class in person at the store or on the website: localartisancollective.com/event-calendar. If you’re interested in the 3-class punch pass, please pay for this class now. When you come to class, we will prorate the other two classes. I do not know how to do two different registrations online.

A full refund, minus a $5 cancellation fee, will be given for cancellations more than 7 days before the class. No refunds for cancellations less than 7 days before the class begins. NO refunds if you sign up by mistake thinking this is a bead, wire wrapping, or other beading jewelry class. It is a silversmithing class.

If you’re using a cell phone and are having trouble registering, turn it on its side. PCs or laptops seem to work best. Call or text 801-686-5351 for more information.

The class will be taught by Rene Venegas, a 16th-generation silversmith. His family was one of the first to arrive from Spain to the Americas. His ancestor, Felipe Venegas, was the silversmith for the early cathedrals in the Dominican Republic and stamped the first European coins in the New World. Rene has taught jewelry and silversmithing classes at Weber State for 15 years. He has been featured in The Standard Examiner, The Signpost, KUTV Inside the Story, FOX13 Good Morning Utah, The Salt Project, and KTVX Good Things Utah. Most recently, he received Ogden City’s Mayor’s Art Award for Folk Art.
