About

Looking to make your own unique jewelry or brush up on silversmithing skills? Then this is the class for you.

Join us for a morning of creating your own unique jewelry. You’ll learn the basics of jewelry making, including how to use different tools and materials and how to create necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and rings. All skill levels are invited. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned pro, you’re sure to have a blast!

This ongoing class lets you learn new skills as you master old ones, but you’re welcome to attend just one class. For a one-time class, you can choose to make:
- A silver band or ring
- A silver band or ring with a cabochon stone
- A simple earring design
- A copper or silver bracelet, with or without a cabochon stone
- A simple pendant, with or without a cabochon stone

This is not a bead, wire-wrapping, or similar class. It is silversmithing.

Class registration includes the class and use of tools and equipment. Metal and stones cost extra; you can bring them from home or buy them at the store during class.

Cost: $40 per 2-hour class, or 3 classes for $100. Class size is limited to about 4–5 people to allow for ample one-on-one instruction.

Though the class is geared toward adults, mature teens and pre-teens are welcome.

When:
- Wednesdays at 10 a.m.
- Monday mornings at 9:30 a.m.

Where: The Local Artisan Collective, 2371 Kiesel Ave, Ogden, downtown, just south of the Megaplex. Private classes and parties are also available.

You can pay in person at the store or on the website: localartisancollective.com/event-calendar. To get the 3-class punch pass, pay for this class now; the other two classes will be prorated when you come to class. The online system does not support two different registrations.

Cancellations made more than 7 days before class receive a full refund minus a $5 cancellation fee. There are no refunds for cancellations made less than 7 days before class, or if you sign up by mistake thinking this is a bead, wire-wrapping, or other beading jewelry class. It is a silversmithing class.

If you’re having trouble registering on a cell phone, turn it on its side. PCs or laptops seem to work best. Call or text 801-686-5351 for more information.

The class is taught by Rene Venegas, a 16th-generation silversmith. His family was among the first to arrive from Spain to the Americas. His ancestor, Felipe Venegas, was the silversmith for the early cathedrals in the Dominican Republic and stamped the first European coins in the New World. Rene has taught jewelry and silversmithing classes at Weber State for 15 years. He has also been featured in The Standard Examiner, The Signpost, KUTV Inside the Story, FOX13 Good Morning Utah, The Salt Project, and KTVX Good Things Utah.
