About
Looking to make your own unique jewelry or brush up on your silversmithing skills? Then this is the class for you.
Join us for a morning of creating your own jewelry. You’ll learn the basics of jewelry making, including how to use different tools and materials and how to create necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and rings. All skill levels are welcome.
This is an ongoing class where you can learn new skills as you master existing ones, but you’re also welcome to attend just one class. For a one-time class, you can choose to make a silver band or ring, a silver band or ring with a cabochon stone, a simple earring design, a copper or silver bracelet with or without a cabochon stone, or a simple pendant with or without a cabochon stone.
This is not a bead, wire-wrapping, or similar class. It is silversmithing.
Class registration includes the class and use of tools and equipment. Metal and stones are extra; you can bring your own or buy them at the store during class.
Cost: $40 per 2-hour class, or 3 classes for $100. Class size is limited to about 4–5 people for ample one-on-one instruction.
When: Mondays at 9:30 a.m. and Wednesdays at 10 a.m.
Where: The Local Artisan Collective, 2371 Kiesel Ave, Ogden, downtown, just south of the Megaplex. Free parking is available in the parking garage immediately behind the building. Enter the garage on 23rd St or Grant Ave. Private classes and parties are also available.
You can pay in person at the store or at localartisancollective.com/event-calendar. If you’re interested in the 3-class pass, pay for this class now; the other two classes will be prorated when you come to class. The website does not support two different registrations online.
A full refund, minus a $5 cancellation fee, is available for cancellations more than 7 days before class. There are no refunds for cancellations less than 7 days before class or for registrations made by mistake because you thought this was a bead, wire-wrapping, or other beading jewelry class. This is a silversmithing class.
If you’re having trouble registering on a cell phone, turn it on its side. PCs or laptops seem to work best. For questions, text 801-686-5351.
The class is taught by Rene Venegas, a 16th-generation silversmith. His family was among the first to arrive from Spain to the Americas. His ancestor Felipe Venegas was the silversmith for early cathedrals in the Dominican Republic and stamped the first European coins in the New World. Rene has taught jewelry and silversmithing classes at Weber State for 15 years and has been featured in The Standard Examiner, The Signpost, KUTV Inside the Story, FOX13 Good Morning Utah, The Salt Project, and KTVX Good Things Utah. Most recently, he received Ogden City’s Mayor’s Art Award for Folk Art.
