About Jess Shade
Jess Shade is a queer cisgender woman, high-altitude ski mountaineer and licensed mental health therapist based out of Salt Lake City. She has skied the great ranges all over the world, including the Andes of Bolivia, the St. Elias Range in Alaska, the Himalaya of Nepal and India and the Karakoram of Pakistan. She is the second recorded woman to ski Manaslu, the eighth highest mountain at 8,163m, as well as the second woman to complete the Chuting Gallery here in the Wasatch Mountains. As a therapist, she has the honor to work closely with the mountain community through partnerships with the Utah Avalanche Center, the American Alpine Club, several guiding companies, a local ski patrol and individual clients. In her work and play, she contemplates existential themes of impermanence, mortality, and freedom.
