Join us at Clark Planetarium to watch the launch of the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope on August 30, 2026. The Roman Telescope will launch on a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
About the telescope:
- Named after NASA’s first chief astronomer, the “mother of the Hubble Space Telescope.”
- Will have a field of view at least 100 times larger than Hubble's, potentially measuring light from a billion galaxies in its lifetime.
- Will be able to block starlight to directly see exoplanets and planet-forming disks, complete a statistical census of planetary systems in our galaxy, and address questions in dark energy, exoplanets, and infrared astrophysics.
Event details:
- Date and time: August 30, 2026, anticipated launch at 5:20 a.m. MDT.
- Doors open at 5:00 a.m.
- NASA LIVE will stream the launch in the Northrop Grumman IMAX® Theatre at Clark Planetarium.
If the launch is scrubbed prior to Sunday morning, the watch party will be rescheduled for the next window once that information is announced.
