About
Welcome to The Forbidden Bookshelf, where we unlock the power of banned and challenged books! Our book club is dedicated to exploring literature restricted or removed from shelves due to Utah's HB29 (the 'sensitive materials' law). Join us as we delve into these forbidden texts, fostering open discussions and promoting intellectual freedom.
Our (Not So) Secret Mission
At The Forbidden Bookshelf, we believe that no book should be off-limits. We're committed to uncovering the wisdom, perspectives, and stories hidden within challenged literature and preserving the right to intellectual exploration.
How Our Secret Society Operates
- Monthly meetings to discuss a selected "forbidden" book.
- Books acquired from a local independent bookstore, supporting our community's literary underground.
- After discussions, books are covertly donated to Brain Food Books, a 501(c)(3) non-profit.
Why We Unlock the Forbidden
Utah's HB29 has locked many books away from curious minds in school libraries. By reading these "forbidden" books and donating them to Brain Food Books, we help ensure these stories and ideas continue circulating and reach those seeking diverse perspectives.
July's Book: The Haters by Jesse Andrews
Order your contraband literature from the King's English Bookshop. Note: we ask that you donate your book after it is acquired so someone else may read this forbidden book.
Participation is FREE, but registration is required. Please RSVP below!
