If any food items are for sale in your booth, the following rules apply:
- Children selling low-risk on-site items (such as cotton candy, snow cones, lemonade) do not require permits.
- Children preparing and selling food on site (such as hamburgers, hot dogs) must have an adult with a food handler permit and a temporary booth permit from the Salt Lake County Health Department. All persons handling food must comply with all Health Department regulations, including acquiring all permits. Contact Salt Lake County Environmental Health at (385) 468-4100 for more information.
- Children selling food made off-site must follow the Homemade Food Act and all related guidelines, including posting a sign that states the food is "not regulated". If your items involve meat, only homegrown chickens and rabbits may be used; beef and pork cannot be used under the Homemade Food Act. Vendors with Cottage Food Permits or permits from a county health department are exempt. The Homemade Food Information Packet includes the Homemade Food Act and an example of the required sign.
