Herriman Tour de Trails: Dawn to Dusk MTB Endurance Challenge
Date: Saturday, October 3
Time: Sunrise to sunset (7:26 am to 7:06 pm)
Location: Blackridge Reservoir Trailhead and Butterfield Canyon Trailhead
Event Sponsor: Friends of Herriman Trails Association
Entrance Fee: $25 to participate; $40 with an event shirt
Event Summary:
Tour de Trails is a self-supported mountain biking challenge designed to encourage riders to explore Herriman trails. It is not a traditional race: there is no mass start, fixed course, trail closure, or road closure. Participants may check in and begin riding at any time after sunrise, choose their own routes among designated existing trails, and finish at either event check-in location before sunset.
Format and Scoring:
- Participants receive a race number plate, a map, and a list of eligible trails.
- Each eligible trail ridden from start to finish earns a 5-point completion bonus. The 5-point bonus may be earned only once per trail. (With the exception of Stampede, BST East, Hardlick, and Bolt–Which will be worth double points)
- Each mile ridden on the bicycle during the event earns 1 additional point, including mileage on repeated trails.
- Riders may use vehicles to travel between trailheads, but recording must be stopped while traveling by vehicle and vehicle mileage does not count.
- Participants will use a GPS activity-tracking app, such as Strava or MapMyRide, to document mileage and completed trails. Volunteers will total points when riders finish.
- Prizes will be awarded to the highest point totals at sunset. Traditional bicycles and e-bikes will compete in separate categories.

Trail Access and Event Operations:
All trails will remain open to the public. Riders are expected to follow normal trail rules and etiquette, yield appropriately to other trail users, and ride independently. Because there is no mass start or required route, participants will naturally be distributed across the trail system throughout the day.
One tent and one table will be set up at Blackridge Reservoir and one tent and one table at the Butterfield Canyon parking area for check-in, scoring, snacks, water, and basic first-aid supplies. Existing public parking at both locations is sufficient for the anticipated attendance; no overflow parking is planned.
No vendors, food sales, generators, portable toilets, alcohol, or other event infrastructure are planned. A printed event map will identify the eligible trails and the two check-in locations. There is no fixed event route and the trails will not be marked as a racecourse.
Registration and Fundraising:
Participants will register and pay for the event online; no event registration will be sold at the County trailhead. All money raised will go directly into the Trails Fund for future trail-building projects. The entry fee for this challenge is non-refundable. If the event is cancelled due to inclement weather or muddy trails, participants can pick up their shirt and goodie bags at Herriman City Hall.
Participant Responsibility and Safety:
This is a self-supported ride. Participants are responsible for their own navigation, food, water, equipment, mechanical needs, first aid, and emergency response. ALL participants must wear a helmet to participate in this event. Event tables will have snacks, water, and a small first-aid kit, but participants are expected to arrive prepared for their ride. Participants are responsible for calling 911 in the event of an emergency.
